I’ve heard a few things through the neighborhood grapevine lately.
Rumor has it that Café Luna will reopen after the 99th St. Metra station is fully functional again. The construction at the station really hurt their business in late summer and fall. I hope they’ll be back.
I’ve also heard that there is a condo development proposed for the location of the park and ride lot by the 95th St. station. Bad idea, IMO. Things will get UGLY if that park and ride lot goes away. Some of the people who park on neighborhood streets when the lot is full (or because they’re just too cheap to pay for the park and ride) are rude and inconsiderate, talking loudly on their cell phones while walking from their cars to the station, sometimes driving recklessly on our streets. The 91st and 99th St. lots are always full. I don’t use 103rd as often, but that one seems to fill up, too.
I don't want to see things reach the point where permit parking is needed anywhere within 1/2 mile of a station. I also don't want residential streets to become unwelcoming to anyone who doesn't live there (hello Evergreen Park).
Don’t know if these rumors are true. Guess we’ll find out over time.
