1/11/11 aldermanic candidate forum

Have you read the Beverly Review write-up on last week's form? You can find it here.

Thanks for the link. To bring up a related article, is anyone going to do an analysis of the "Question for the Candidates" piece that the Beverly Review is running every week?

Coronado's piece on education caught my attention because it brought up schools and ideas that I never heard of (CTK Jesuit, Cristo Rey).

The more recent piece on public safety had O'Shea claiming to be the only candidate with real ideas. However, I disagree - there were a number of innovative ideas mentioned. Maybe O'Shea should read the Beverly Review more closely.

I'd love to hear a more in-dept discussion of the candidates positions.

O'Shea was the only candidate who got specific about public safety at the forum at Mt. Greenwood Park, and the others never provided details anywhere else either, prior to the Beverly Review piece. So his comment was accurate. Until this week, the others talked in generalities (Sherlock: I'll tell the commander at 22 that moving police cars to the east end of the ward is unacceptable.) So what? What does that mean? Then what? Because Sherlock says that the commander reorganizes the district? Does Sherlock think Ginger Rugai never told this commander and others that we want more protection in the lower-crime areas of the ward? Schaible emphasizes beat integrity, but didn't tell the audience members how she would MAKE that happen. The candidates need to be specific. What is up with Coronado's nonsense about making the ward the "pepper spray capital of the Midwest"?

I was out running necessary errands after work in the snow. I didn't have any more difficulty getting to BAC than I have driving in the snow throughout my entire life. All these hours later, the weather is worse, but at 7:30 it was typical of a Chicago snowstorm, at least in our neighborhood. If the forum was cancelled, you would have said that O'Shea engineered it, and blamed him for it. You ninnies complained when he didn't attend a thrown-together-at-the-last-minute event when he had a previous engagement. I'm glad he and Diane Phillips had the courtesy to drive the few blocks to BAC. I live further than most of the candidates, as did many of the interested residents who attended. Naturally, attendance was much lower than it would have been if there wasn't heavy snow. Any of you candidates could have, and should have attended. I drove home without incident and am glad to be in my house, but just as glad that I took the time to see the forum. Stop blaming Matt O'Shea for the forum going forward. Enough of your self-promotion disguised as concern for us. Man up and show up. If I could get there, so could the candidates. Also, the people conducting the forum made the decision to honor the date, yet you call Matt O'Shea selfish. It merely appears that you are sorry you didn't fulfill your responsibility. By the way, I made 7 stops after work today. No problem. I simply drove with caution. Residents and candidates could have shown up at the forum, but some of you would rather whine.
