On Saturday 5/18 from 10 am to 1 pm, your neighborhood Treekeepers are hosting a workday to give the trees in Ridge Park (1817 W 96th St.) a bit of TLC. They could really use some mulch. This is a team effort, so we could use your help. We will meet at the south end of the parking lot.
No special skills are needed. We'll teach you what you need to know. If you have work gloves that you like, you're welcome to bring them, otherwise we'll have some available for use during the workday. Please wear shoes, hiking boots or work boots that provide good support, as well as comfortable clothing suitable for yard work.
Student volunteers are welcome.

Whistler Woods habitat restoration workday Sat. 3/16
It's great to get outdoors. Volunteers are needed this Saturday 3/16 from 10 am to 1 pm for a habitat restoration workday - brush cutting and bonfires. Snacks and water will be available. (3rd Saturday of the month is the regular day.)
How to get there: Whistler Woods is just east of 13400 S Halsted in Riverdale.
By bike: if you're coming from the north, ride the Major Taylor Trail south until it ends in Whistler Woods and continue to the parking lot to find the volunteers.
By car: take Halsted to Forestview (13400S) - parking lot is the first left turn after you turn east onto Forestview.

Ridge Park tree workday on Sat. 3/24
Would you like to help TreeKeepers volunteers do a tree inventory of Ridge Park (1817 W 96th St.) on Saturday 3/24? We'll meet at noon by the fieldhouse and work for a few hours, taking measurements and making observations about the health of trees in the park.
It helps the park district get an accurate picture of how many trees we have in the park, and the species, size and general health of each tree. It's not strenuous work.You don't need to have any special skills. Each team will be led by a TreeKeeper and you'll get instruction at the workday.
Afterwards we'll adjourn to Horse Thief Hollow.

Friends of the Major Taylor Trail will meet on Wed. 10/19 at Ridge Park fieldhouse (1817 W 96th St.), 6:30 to 8:00 pm.
For those who aren't familiar with our group and what we do, we are a non-profit advocacy group working to improve and maintain the Major Taylor Trail and promote its use. We have an active working relationship with the Chicago Park District, Forest Preserve District of Cook County, Openlands and other non-profits and government agencies. We organize volunteer workdays, bike rides and other events.
We'd love to have your ideas and help with future events and projects. Please join us! Everyone is welcome.

Whistler Woods Friday workday on 11/13
Nothing gets the weekend off to a better start than a little wood smoke and light forestry. Volunteers are needed to secure erosion barriers before fall’s heavy rains. The next workday is happening this Friday 11/13 from 10 am to noon.

Friends of the Parks is seeking volunteers to help spread the fibar surfacing in new playgrounds across Chicago. Fibar is the wood material that lies under and around swings, slides, monkey bars and other playground equipment.
Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age. Please dress appropriately in clothing suitable for active outdoor work and closed-toe shoes: boots or sneakers. You will be working with wheel barrels, rakes and such.
